SPOTLIGHT: Using Visual Prompts in the Classroom
Ms. Marlene & Ms. Rogia at SCAP Early Learning Center on Emmons. St. know that because children’s’ frontal lobe is not yet developed, abstract thought and holding multi-step processes in mind are very challenging for them. Visual prompts such as center systems to help children plan and problem solve during play, and visuals to review classroom expectations (multiple times a day) help children to understand and remember what they should be doing.
FUN FACT | Ms. Marlene was Brightside Up’s Executive Director, Abbe Kovacik’s CDA student 19 years ago and credits Abbe for her persistence in the field. “If it wasn’t for her I probably never would have gotten the CDA or my degree, she was definitely my inspiration. She’s a very special woman.”
Ms. Rogia is currently a CDA student of Heather Sweet here at Brightside Up.
