SPOTLIGHT: Help Children Check In with Their Feelings for Valentine's Day (& Every Day!)
There’s lots of love in room 106 at SCAP Early Learning Center’s Bigelow site as this class counts down to Valentine’s Day!
Ms. Tiffany, Ms. Alga, and Ms. Gulshan are intentional about talking about feelings and friendship this month (and every month!) to increase their student’s social-emotional competence. Helping children to recognize their feelings and where they feel it in their body helps to develop empathy and self-regulation. This classroom checks-in with their feelings every morning and talks about how to be a good friend in school. (Not pictured: these amazing teachers also created a feelings/emotions chart using real photos of children in the classroom)
How do you help children understand their feelings and build social-emotional competence? Tell us and you could be featured in a future Spotlight! Email ksmith@ brightsideup.org
