Please join us for this distinguished panel of early childhood professionals to listen to the career journeys of men in the field. We’ll hear from leaders on how to create an environment that is welcoming and supportive to males in the workplace as well as what the research tells us are helpful strategies to increase recruitment and retention of male educators in the early childhood workforce.

Panelists:

Taylor Brandon is currently a head-teacher at the Borough of Manhattan Community College Early Childhood Center where he has spent the past 10 years. He has worked with children of all ages for over 15 years incorporating his extensive background in dance and the performing arts. Taylor received his Master’s in Early Childhood Education from City College and is a NY State certified professional.

Cecilia Scott-Croff has more than 25 years of experience in the fields of early childcare, special education, and advocacy. She is a leader in these fields having secured major city, state, and federal funding of over 5 million dollars for the programs she has served, obtained national accreditation, managed multiple funding streams and worked closely with at-risk families.

Jason Wellington is the President and Director of Joyful Beginnings Early Education Program, Inc., in Waterford NY. Jason has over 20 years of experience working in the field of human services, with both adults and children. Jason has an entrepreneur’s spirit and is always looking for ways to contribute to local communities.

Jason Breslin, NBCT, was appointed in November 2019 as the Director for the Office of Early Learning within the State Education Department. Mr. Breslin brings nearly 14 years of experience in the field of education, most recently as an Associate in Education Improvement Services in both the Office of Accountability and the Office of Innovation and School Reform with the New York State Education Department.

Dr. Mindi Reich-Shapiro has worked in the field of early childhood education for more than 30 years. She is an Assistant Professor in the Teacher Education Department at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she recently completed a two-year study to explore strategies to increase recruitment and retention of male educators in the early childhood workforce.

Gerald Smith who is a Career Development Coordinator for early childhood professionals in the WNY region will facilitate this event. Working in the field for 17 years, he has experience as a Preschool Teacher, Child Care Center Director, Quality Improvement Mentor, Professional Development Trainer, CDA PD Specialist, and Adjunct Professor.


NEW INFORMATION SESSION DATES ADDED FOR THE CUNY/SUNY EARLY CHILDHOOD WORKFORCE SCHOLARSHIP

Would you like to earn a credential, certificate, two-year, four-year, or graduate degree?

CUNY-SUNY Early Childhood Workforce Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship designed to support those individuals working 20 hours in a licensed early childhood center. New, returning, and current students are eligible to apply for the scholarship through The New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute’s Career Development Center in partnership with EIP. Applicants must have an ASPIRE ID Account and a copy of IRS Form 1040.
