Say Thank You on December 10 | Join the #MoreThanEssential Campaign

Join us on December 10 as we (virtually) rally the community to say thank you to child care workers who have tirelessly and bravely cared for our children through the COVID 19 pandemic. At 8 pm on December 10, join us on Facebook for a video premiere and virtual rally to thank the child care community. Let’s flood social media with thank you messages using #MoreThanEssential to bring awareness to the heroic effort made by child care workers throughout COVID 19.

Child care workers are on the frontline, making it possible for essential workers to report for duty each day during the coronavirus outbreak. In an uncertain and often daunting time, they were there for us, caring for our children so we could go to work. Now it’s time for a special thank you just for them.

YOU ARE invited to send a video message to be included in the campaign video. Please create a video message thanking your child care provider to include in our official #MoreThanEssential Thank You video to premiere on Dec 10 at 8 PM. Email your video to ksmith@brightsideup.org by DECEMBER 4. TIPS: Keep it short and sweet, turn your camera horizontally, and just say thanks and SMILE.

Below are some ways to thank your special child care worker in the days leading up to December 10.

Simple ways to say thank you:

  1. Create a sign – make a sign for your yard or window that child care workers will see when they walk or drive past your home. Get the kids involved with paint, markers, or whatever you have on hand. Make it festive by highlighting it with a string of lights. (email a picture to us for inclusion in the compilation thank you video by Dec 4)

  2. Give a meal – There are tons of great restaurants where gift cards can be purchased or given through a delivery platform like Mealio or Door Dash. (This is also a great way to support local eateries!)

  3. Make & send a card – Create a mini version of your lawn/window sign and send it right to your child care program, this is perfect for kids to do. Let them know how important and essential they are. (email a picture to us for inclusion in the compilation thank you video by Dec 4)

  4. Actually say “Thank you” – Nothing beats an authentic, heartfelt message right from you to the person you appreciate. Tell them why they were so important in you & your child’s life during the pandemic.

  5. Be kind – Child care is tough work even without the stress of a pandemic. Be kind during drop off and pick up, check-in with your child care provider to see how they are doing. Wear your mask & follow the safety protocols in place at your child care program.

  6. Send lunch – Food is always fun! Send a pizza to your child’s program and treat everyone to lunch.

  7. Send a message on social media – Use hashtag #MoreThanEssential and post about how amazing your child care provider is!

  8. Make a video - Make a video of you and your child thanking your child care provider and post it to social media (send it to us for inclusion in the compilation thank you video by Dec 4)

  9. Tell a story-send in a story describing how special your child care program is, what they mean to you, or a time they went above and beyond to help you & your child and we will share it in Home & Classroom (magazine and/or podcast)

  10. Have an idea? Share it with us to be added to this list!
