2022 Market Rates Published
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services has just released the new market rates for 2022. Federal and New York State law require the State to establish these payment rates for child care assistance to ensure equal access to child care services for eligible children.
A child care market rate survey team conducted a survey of a random sample of child care providers from across the state throughout the fall of 2021 and into the beginning of 2022. The market rate data was collected from approximately forty-five hundred child care providers.
The results of the market rate survey helps determine child care subsidy payment rates so they accurately reflect local prices. Additionally, the market rates must consider the variations in the costs associated with providing care in different settings and to children of different age groups as well as the cost of providing care to children with special needs.
The market rates are currently established in five groupings of local social services districts often referred to as LSSD’s. The counties served by Brightside Up are in groups 2, 3, & 4.
NYS OCFS analyzed the survey data for each of these five distinct groupings and the market rates were established at the 80th percentile. New York’s market rates were previously set at the 69th percentile of the survey conducted in 2017-18.
It is also important to note that there is a new – and simple – rate increase form for providers who do not serve any private pay clients.
